ABORTION PROCEDURES

    • First Trimester:
      • Medication or Surgical Abortions
      • Abortion by Medication: Methotrexate & Misoprostol (MTX), or Misoprostol
      • Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA): Anesthesia given to mother, Baby is vacuumed out, uterus scraped clean of remaining baby parts
      • Aspiration: surgical, abortion procedure used to terminate pregnancy up to 16 weeks suction curettage, dilation and curettage (D & C) or vacuum aspiration.
    • Second Trimester:
      • Dilation & Curettage (D & C): Surgical, baby is cut up and vacuumed out, uterus scraped clean of remaining baby parts
      • Dilation & Evacuation (D & E): Surgical, Child is cut up and scraped out of uterus
      • Induction Abortion: Surgical, Salt water or urea is injected into the mother: prostaglandins are inserted, remains removed: essentially, this procedure burns the baby up with a salt solution
    • Third Trimester:
      • Induction Abortion: surgical, salt water, urea, or salt is injected into the mother; prostaglandins are inserted so the remains can be delivered, and pitocin is injected intravenously: essentially, this procedure burns the baby up with a salt solution
      • Partial Birth Abortion (also called D & X, Intact D & X, Intrauterine Cranial Decompression): surgical, post 21 weeks; child is rotated and pulled out of the mother, the doctor stabs the skull, inserts scissors into the hole, and opens them up, vacuums out the brains, and removes the now deflated head and other remains.
